Who We Are
PN College Hockey Club is the oldest hockey club in the Manawatu and is regarded as a major player within the central region. Our club was established in 1904 and has maintained an impeccable record throughout its 117 year existence. We are a dynamic club with a strong passion for the game. Our ambition is to create a friendly, constructive environment for our members and to strengthen our community-driven spirit to give back to our wider hockey community. We share the goal of working hard and having fun!
Currently our club has over 200 active members (players, coaches, umpires and administrators) fielding 10 teams across the men’s and women’s serious and social grades. We always welcome new members and encourage competitive and non-competitive players to join. There are several tiers of teams which we arrange according to their skill level, age and gender, and the day of the week people want to play, meaning that experienced and inexperienced players can find a place at PN College Hockey Club.
Our premier male and female teams have remained in the first division since their commencement, and have collectively won numerous titles. Over the years we have been proud to field a number of Blacksticks, New Zealand age group and regional representative players and our players benefit not only from playing alongside these role models but also from the development provided by our senior regional and national level coaches.
PN College Hockey Club members are important contributors to the health of hockey in the region, nationally and internationally through their involvement in the governance of hockey, contribution to umpiring (some at the highest level), and commitment to developing players as coaches for school age and representative players.
Our social calendar is full of fun events that cater for everyone, including family days, xmas parties, quiz evenings, mystery bus trips, and prizegiving.
We have a strong and loyal supporters club of families and people who have remained interested and connected with the club long after their playing days have finished. Each year we are fortunate to receive donations from our supporters, which we use to develop our up and coming talent.
PN College Hockey Club enjoys a long association with and the support of a number of local sponsors who help us to not only keep costs down for our members, but to invest in the development and continued success of our club.
Our colours are black, white and blue. We supply all of our players with a full modern uniform and kit out our coaches and managers with smart club apparel. Each year the club offers members and supporters the opportunity to purchase club apparel (kids, men’s and women’s fits and sizes) that includes sweatshirts, jackets, and training shirts. We also sell club scarves and umbrellas.
The winter competitions usually run from April to August and are held on a Friday night, on Saturday afternoons and evenings, and on Sundays each week. The summer hockey league runs from November through to February. Practice times are available to all club members and nights and times change annually on a rostered basis, but are generally any time from 6.30 pm onwards on a weeknight.
